Know Your Raw Food: The Antioxidant Value of Noni Fruit Leather

For years, scientists have understood that while our bodies require oxygen, too much oxygen in the body’s cells can promote diseases that range from cancer, heart disease, and Alzheimer’s. The antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables include the power to suppress and reduce free radicals, helping in the fight against degenerative health concerns. In the search for supplements that meet these standards, consumers can examine their chosen food or supplement’s Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity (ORAC). ORAC value measures a food’s ability to make reactive oxidizing compounds in the body harmless through natural free radical processes. What does this mean for you?  Eating foods with high ORAC values and antioxidants will help your body stay healthy and fit! Nutritionists recommend a daily intake of about 3,000 – 5,000 units per day.

Raisins versus Grapes

So, what foods produce the best oxygen radical absorbance capacity? Foods like colorful fruits and green leafy vegetables often contain high levels of Vitamin C and beta-carotene, powerful antioxidants, and foods with Vitamins A and E, such as butter, milk, and eggs, also have oxygen absorbency. Noni is shown to have a massive amount of antioxidants, with an extremely high ORAC value. Some of the highest oxygen absorbency in foods can be found in spices, such as clove and cinnamon, generally used in minute amounts. Scientists have discovered that water content also plays a key role in a food’s oxygen reducing value. For instance, dried foods such as raisins have a much higher value than their water-retentive relative, the grape.

Among these foods, the humble Noni Fruit Leather showed a more potent oxygen reducing value than popular antioxidants like blueberries, strawberries, and raspberries.

The Hawaiian Organic Noni Difference

Organic farmer Steve Frailey and owner of Hawaiian Organic Noni has come a long way in perfecting an organic family farm and processing facility that involves two key components:

  • No till certified organic farming practices using mulch, compost, vermiculture and compost teas. The family's noni trees produce an abundance of fruit twelve months of the year!
  • Unique low heat dehydration process using only non-fermented noni to maintain the maximum concet5ration of phytonutrients found in raw noni pulp.

A laboratory test at an independent lab in California found:

This makes the Noni Fruit Leather 14 times more potent than noni juice due to the fact that Hawaiian Organic Noni maintains the full potency of the raw pulp of noni. The result is a raw food Noni Fruit Leather, shipped globally to deliver a whole food antioxidant with an ORAC value that puts other fruits, including raisins, to shame.
