Is Noni a miracle?

Aloha!
On farm tours I frequently get this question: Is Noni a miracle? No. Does Noni promote overall good health? Absolutely. If you do not destroy the over 165 compounds found in the pulp of Noni in processing. The potency is in the raw non-fermented pulp of Noni. That is why on our certified organic family farm we grow, pick and process only raw non-fermented Noni. Our unique low-heat drying process (below 115 F) maintains the potency of the pulp providing the maximum health benefits.

This Month is Pain Relief Month at Hawaiian Organic Noni. I would like to revisit an article published in 2007 in the Doctor’s Prescription for Healthy Living titled: “Noni’s Amazing Pain-relieving Benefits for Active People”. The article was written in response to our Icy Heat Noni Lotion winning the 2007 Gear Award Seal of Excellence for Sport, Health and Fitness. Our Icy Heat Noni Lotion was tried by a large number of professional and elite athletes who then voted to award our lotion the Seal of Excellence for 2007. Not all of us are elite athletes, but as we grow older many of us start developing aches and pains. Our Icy Heat Noni Lotion helps relieve all sorts of pain, reduce inflammation, and helps get you ready to go dancing!!

Noni Lotion - A History

We developed our first lotion, Noni Lavender Lotion, with the help of Melody Toth, who was one of the head sports trainers at the University of Hawaii. She was amazed at how our Noni lotion, made from our Noni Fruit Leather in a water base, would not only address the pain and inflammation from sports injuries but also heal the muscle/ligament tissues in athletes.

Noni's Amazing Pain-Relieving Benefits for Active People

In the article “Noni’s Amazing Pain-relieving Benefits for Active People”, the editor of the magazine interviews Mel, providing her own personal experiences with Noni healing athletes. It was due to Mel that we developed the Icy Heat Noni Lotion several years after our original Noni Lavender Lotion. One season, the University of Hawaii’s basketball team had several players from Europe. Mel wanted them to use the Noni Lavender Lotion to heal various sports injuries, but the players were not familiar with Noni and were resisting using it. To trick them, Mel began adding products with menthol crystals and camphor oil to our Noni Lavender lotion. The players would feel the reaction on the skin of hot and cold from the menthol and camphor. “I can feel it working” they would tell Mel. She wanted to get Noni on them to heal and her trick worked. However, she notice the response time for pain relief and healing was quicker due to the menthol and camphor opening up the pores of the skin tissue – enhancing the Noni’s penetration into the tissue and the blood system allowing it to do its magic faster.

Which brings up a very common question that I receive: “What’s the difference between the Icy Heat Noni lotion and the Sport Formula Icy Heat Noni Lotion?” At the request of the sports trainers at the University of Hawaii, we developed the Sport Formula Icy Heat Noni Lotion with 1% more menthol crystals and camphor oil than the original Icy Heat Noni Lotion. The additional 1% was to expedite or quicken the response for pain relief. The additional 1% seems to make the Noni penetrate quicker and the time for pain relief is quicker. Both lotions are wonderful for pain relief. I personally find that the Sport Formula Icy Heat Noni Lotion takes my leg cramps away the fastest. I keep it next to my bed at night and have found that leg cramps go away in 60 seconds after applying.

EXCERPTS FROM THE ARTICLE
“Recently, we interviewed Melody Toth, who just retired after three decades at the university and asked her to detail how ordinary athletes and weekend warriors could benefit from noni, too.”
“Toth advised us that as a trainer to some of the world’s elite athletes, she uses many modalities, including electrical stimulation, acupuncture, shiatsu, tape strips and noni. “

“All are important and essential to doing my job,” she says. “Yet, for the non-elite athlete, noni might play an even more important role, since some modalities are not as readily available to most people on a daily basis as they are; with athletes who work with professional trainers, whereas topical noni can be purchased at your local health food store or directly from Hawaiian Organic Noni.”

“I used noni mostly for tired legs, bone spurs, arthritis, repetitive trauma and ankle support,” she says.
In the rest of the interview, Mel talks about using our Icy Heat Noni lotion for:

  • Sore ankles and heels – sprains and strains
  • Tired legs – from over excursion or cramps
  • Quadriceps and hamstring injuries – heals minor strains to total ruptures of the muscle
  • Low back pain – relieves pain
  • Trauma and minor contusions – bruises disappear
  • Repetitive motion injuries – heals tendonitis and bursitis in Golf & Tennis players
  • Warming up massage – prior to work out
  • Remember that this is from a professional trainer’s personal experiences using our Noni lotions on athletes at the University of Hawaii

WHAT RESEARCH SAYS ABOUT NONI AND PAIN RELIEF

There is lots of published research substantiating the anti-inflammatory of Noni pulp with no negative side effects. In the January 2010 issue of Phytotherapy Research (24[1]:38-42), researchers from the University Clinic Hamburg, Germany, found that preparations of Noni: “are effective in decreasing pain and joint destruction caused by arthritis.

About the Author: Steve Frailey

My wife and I (Steve Frailey) moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 1982 from our organic farm in California. There were no roads, electricity, water or buildings but lots of Noni trees (Morinda Citrifolia) in our valley. We also developed a deep relationship with Noni that was growing all through our valley.  Today we run our Hawaiian Organic Noni farm, and share the gift of health with people throughout the world.
