Unhealthy blood pressure levels can take a toll on the cardiovascular system. According to the Centers for Disease, Control and Prevention, approximately 68 million Americans are affected by high blood pressure. High blood pressure is also known as the “silent killer” because complications in connection with high blood pressure do not appear until the advanced stages.

How Do You Measure Blood Pressure:

Two numbers express a person’s blood pressure -- the systolic blood pressure (the higher number) and diastolic blood pressure (the lower number). The systolic blood pressure represents the arterial pressure as the heart muscle contracts and pumps blood through the arteries.  It should optimally be at 120 millimeters of mercury (mm Hg) or less. The diastolic blood pressure is the pressure within the artery when the heart is in a relaxed state. It should optimally be at or less than 80 mm Hg. The elevation in both of these numbers are strong indicators of heart health.

Look at the statistics below and see how you measure up:

  • Normal: Less than 120 over 80 (120/80)
  • Prehypertension: 120-139 over 80-89
  • Stage 1 high blood pressure: 140-159 over 90-99
  • Stage 2 high blood pressure: 160 and above over 100 and above
  • High blood pressure in people over age 60: 150 and above over 90 and above

Causes of unhealthy blood pressure levels:

  • Smoking
  • Being overweight or obese
  • Lack of physical activity
  • Too much salt in your diet
  • Too much alcohol consumption
  • Constant/extreme stress
  • Older age
  • Genetics
  • Adrenal disorders

Never heard of noni? Noni fruit has over 165 naturally occurring beneficial compounds. Some of which can help you maintain healthy blood pressure levels already within the normal range. Let’s go over a few of them.

Nitric Oxide-  Nitric oxide is believed to be one of the many factors that controls blood pressure within the body by acting as a vasodilator (or dilating of the blood vessels). Noni stimulates the body's ability to produce nitric oxide.

Scopoletin-  Like nitric oxide, scopoletin has been scientifically proven to dilate blood vessels and also acts as a vasodilator to lower blood pressure.

Serotonin- Serotonin is a molecule that allows nerve cells to communicate and interact with each other properly. Serotonin can help regulate the expansion and contraction of blood vessels.

These are just a few ways how noni fruit can help maintain your blood pressure levels already within a normal range. But there are so many noni fruit options…. noni juice, noni powder, noni capsules and noni fruit leather. Which one is most beneficial and more potent?

What Kind of Noni do I Need?

While fresh is always best, there are numerous forms of noni fruit on the market. From juice, to capsules, to powder and fruit leather. However, not all forms of noni are created equal. Remember that processing at high heat, removing the pulp or fermentation all destroy beneficial compounds and decrease the potency and effectiveness of noni. The true traditional use by Polynesians and Hawaiians for thousands of years was to eat the raw non-fermented fruit pulp for full potency and maximum benefit. The key is non-fermented raw noni pulp and low heat processing to maintain its 165 beneficial compounds. To learn more where your supplements come from click here.

Picked at the peak of maturity, Hawaiian Organic Noni processes raw non-fermented noni pulp into Noni Fruit Leather on our certified organic family farm. The organic growing methods include mulching, composting, vermiculture (worms) and compost teas all made on the family farm. Healthy trees make abundant healthy fruit. All 165 compounds and essential amino acids are carefully preserved with no additives or preservatives using our unique low heat dehydrating process (below 115F). Independent lab testing has shown our Noni Fruit Leather to be 14x more potent than fermented noni juice

About the Author: Steve Frailey

My wife and I (Steve Frailey) moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 1982 from our organic farm in California. There were no roads, electricity, water or buildings but lots of Noni trees (Morinda Citrifolia) in our valley. We also developed a deep relationship with Noni that was growing all through our valley.  Today we run our Hawaiian Organic Noni farm, and share the gift of health with people throughout the world.
