Noni Fruit: Importance of Potency

One can find many herbs and fruits in nature that contain medicinal qualities. Generally speaking, they tend to be very specific, limiting to only 4-5 conditions. However, Noni Fruit, with over 165 beneficial compounds, has been used over the centuries by many cultures for health and wellness. Over the past 25 years, scientific research have discovered that noni fruit can address over 65 different conditions (as listed on the USDA’s website).

To accomplish this feat, the beneficial properties lie in the pulp of the raw noni fruit, not in fermented juices, dehydrated capsules or freeze dried capsules. How can this be you ask? Think logically about the process of turning raw noni pulp into these various products.

Fermentation creates alcohol that destroys all the enzymes and changes/degrades the beneficial compounds found in the raw pulp of the fruit. The noni pulp is then thrown away and the juice pasteurized at high temperatures to increase shelf life and then sugar is added for taste. We will talk more about the importance of low temperature and potency later.

The powder in dehydrated capsules is made at temperatures above 135 F. Scientifically, heat above 130 F destroys all living enzymes. Even at 118 F, one begins to destroy beneficial enzymes in the pulp of noni fruit. Capsules also contain additional substances such as silica and anti-caking agents.

In "freeze dried" capsules, the noni fruit is steamed to temperatures above 140 F to “kill the bad pathogens” before vacuuming out the liquid. At 140 F most if not all of the beneficial enzymes, along with any potency is destroyed.

Being that all the health benefits lie in the raw noni pulp, is exactly why we spent years developing equipment that allows us to maintain that potency naturally. Our unique, low heat, dehydration process works below 115 F to ensure our Noni Fruit Leather is as close to the raw unfermented noni fruit as one can get.

All of our organic noni products are grown, hand picked and processed here on our certified organic noni farm. We have total control over every aspect of the growing, processing and packaging. Being that we grow our own noni fruit, we’re able to pick it at maximum maturity and process only the non-fermented raw pulp minus the seeds.

True to the traditional use for thousands of years in Polynesia and Hawaii, the only way to receive the full benefits of noni fruit is to eat the raw fruit (not fermented) to maintain overall health and wellness. In modern times, this is not the case. Hawaiian Organic Noni has changed the industry regarding noni fruit and noni products. Using our unique low heat dehydration process for maximum potency, our Noni Fruit Leather is just like eating the raw fruit off the tree.

Speaking of maximum potency, we sent our Noni Fruit Leather to an independent lab testing facility and the results that came back blew us away. The US Department of Agriculture has determined that a person should be consuming foods and supplements with at least 3,000 to 5,000 ORAC units per day. For consumers, ORAC values can be an important guide to some of the world’s healthiest foods. To establish a baseline, blueberries score 2,400 on the ORAC scale and apples came in at 3,082 per 100 grams. Noni juice (fermented noni) was recorded at 1,506 ORAC units while Noni Fruit Leather scored an incredible 340,000 ORAC units! Our Noni Fruit Leather ORAC value scored so high because it’s made from the raw fruit that has not been fermented or destroyed by high temperature processing. One 2x2 serving of our Noni Fruit Leather contains 6024 ORAC units!
