Bananas are among the most popular fruit on earth by young and old alike. For good reason! Bananas are naturally sweet, easy to peel, very nutritious, and convenient to transport.

A little about bananas:

Bananas are native to Southeast Asia. Currently, bananas are grown and harvested in tropical parts of the world. The most common type of banana we know and love is the yellow banana which is ironically green when unripe.

A single banana contains the following nutrients:

  • Potassium: 9%
  • Vitamin B6: 33%
  • Vitamin C: 11%
  • Magnesium: 8%
  • Copper: 10%
  • Manganese: 14%

A little about Noni Fruit:

Noni is a tropical tree known scientifically as Morinda Citrifolia. The true traditional use for thousands of years among Polynesian cultures was to eat the raw noni fruit as a natural preventative. Noni fruit contains vital micronutrients, including natural antioxidants, soluble and insoluble fiber, essential fatty acids, and countless other vitamins and minerals, which work together to promote good health.

Noni Fruit can assist the body with: (internal links will be added where applicable)

  • Cardiovascular Systems
  • Immune Systems
  • Inflammation
  • Cholesterol Levels
  • Blood Sugar Levels
  • Blood Pressure Levels
  • Joint Functions and Good Joint Health
  • Skin Tone and Texture
  • Sore Muscles
  • Swelling

Why bananas and noni fruit are a match made in heaven:

Bananas: The carbs in green bananas consist mostly of resistant starch, but as the banana ripens, the starch turns into glucose.

Resistant starch is treated by the body like soluble fiber and escapes digestion. Both pectin and resistant starch may moderate blood sugar levels after meals, and reduce appetite by slowing stomach emptying.

Yellow bananas also rank low to medium on the glycemic index. The glycemic index is how one can measure how quickly foods increase blood sugar levels.

From 0-100 the glycemic value of unripe bananas is about 30, while ripe bananas rank at about 60.

This means that bananas should not cause major spikes in blood sugar levels in healthy individuals. Several studies have shown that 15–30 grams of resistant starch per day may improve insulin sensitivity by 33–50% in as little as 4 weeks.

Noni Fruit:

Study 1

A study in the “Evidence-Based Complementary and Alternative Medicine Journal” showed that noni fruit was effective in lowering blood sugar levels naturally. This is because noni fruit contains saponins and flavonoids like rutin that may enhance insulin production.

Study 2

A study was being done to test the impact of noni extract on diabetic animals. The Nigerian Journal of Health and Biomedical Sciences showed that noni could keep diabetic symptoms under control as long as the test subjects kept consuming noni.

Study 3

In Japan, another study was conducted to test the hypoglycemic effects of Morinda Citrifolia roots. One of the extracts “showed a significant reduction of the blood glucose levels.”

Bananas: have several features that should make them a weight loss friendly food. Bananas contain relatively few calories approximately 100-140 per banana. Bananas are also rich in fiber. Regularly consuming fiber from fruit and vegetables have been linked to natural lower body weight. Furthermore, unripe bananas are packed with resistant starch. Resistant starch is a type of indigestible carbohydrate found in unripe bananas, which functions similar to soluble fiber in the body.

To break it down, one can estimate that the greener the banana is, the higher the amount of resistant starch it contains. On the other hand, more ripe (yellow) bananas contain lower amounts of resistant starch and total fiber, but proportionally higher amounts of soluble fiber. Both pectin and resistant starch have been shown to have appetite-reducing effects and increase the feeling of fullness after meals.

Bananas: are a great dietary source of potassium. One medium-sized banana contains 9% of the recommended daily intake or RDI. A potassium-rich diet can help lower blood pressure, and people who eat plenty of potassium have up to a 27% lower risk of heart disease.

Noni Fruit Leather: one serving of Hawaiian Organic Noni fruit leather contains .06 grams. Making bananas a great addition to the formula Potassium is a mineral that is essential for heart health, especially blood pressure control.

Bananas: contain several types of potent antioxidants, including dopamine and catechins. These natural antioxidants have been linked to health benefits, such as a reduced risk of heart disease and degenerative diseases. However, it is a common misunderstanding that the dopamine from bananas acts as a feel-good chemical in the brain. In reality, dopamine from bananas does not cross the blood-brain barrier instead, it acts as a strong antioxidant instead of altering hormones or mood.

Noni Fruit: Noni fruit has always been sold as a commercial juice and diluted with liquid/added sugar. This process throws the pulp away and ferments the fruit making it lose most of its antioxidant properties and potency. As a result, nobody realized just how much antioxidant power the concentrated raw pulp of noni fruit contains. Until now.

Hawaiian Organic Noni has perfected a method through low heat dehydration using on non-fermented noni which preserves the potency and the nutrition of fresh noni fruit into what is called Noni Fruit Leather. Independent Laboratory testing performed for Hawaiian Organic Noni, reveals a new level of antioxidant potency from Noni Fruit Leather that is not only higher than noni juice but the highest antioxidant of any raw food. When recently studied for its own antioxidant potential, Noni Fruit Leather served 340,000 ORAC units per 100 grams, according to UBE Analytical Laboratories of Fullerton, California. This makes Noni Fruit Leather more potent than a serving of apples, blueberries, pomegranates, raisins and grapes. When used in a daily two-by-two- inch serving size, Noni Fruit Leather provides 6,024 ORAC units, more than any other antioxidant-rich food. That’s the recommended daily intake in just one little square of Noni Fruit Leather. Based on comparable serving sizes, Noni Fruit Leather is 13.91 times more potent than commercial noni juice.

Study 1

In Phytotherapy Research (24[1]:38-42), researchers from the University Clinic in Hamburg, Germany, reported that noni fruit’s analgesic activity “reduced the pain sensitivity comparably to the central analgesic drug tramadol.” When extracts of noni fruit puree were applied, the “effect was comparable to hydrocortisone.”

Study 2

Acta Pharmacologica Sinica (23[12]:1127-1141) published another study which found that noni extract is a dosage-related anti-inflammatory and central analgesic. In fact, they found that it was 75 percent as strong as morphine, had no toxic level, and caused no side-effects.

Our noni lotions also work great to relieve pain. They help restore your tissues and reduce inflammation as well, but to see the most dramatic results, try our Noni Fruit Leather. It works from the inside out to tackle your pain at its source.

Bananas: Incredibly easy to eat and transport, bananas have their own unique biodegradable wrapper. Toss one in your bag and go!

Banana Noni Fruit Leather: Noni fruit does lots of things well, but travelling isn't one of them. As soon as the noni fruit is picked, it begins to break down. Within hours of ripening the majority of the beneficial compounds have been destroyed due to fermentation. This led others to taking noni fruit and making powders, pills, and juice from the fruit. Herein lie another issue, the noni has to be combined with sugar and other chemicals which alters the pulp of the noni fruit.

Our Noni Banana Fruit Leather is made from 2/3 non-fermented organic raw noni fruit pulp and 1/3 organic bananas. We use an unique low heat drying process to maintain the beneficial enzymes and compounds for maximum potency. We add organic bananas to our Noni Banana Fruit Leather for flavor. It is raw food with absolutely no additives or preservatives with a 2 year shelf life requiring no refrigeration.
