Our Noni Journey

Young and old alike, we all have the desire to enjoy good health. For those just starting their Noni journey, below is a brief overview of why we produce our Organic Noni products the way we do as well as how to use them. When it comes to Noni Fruit, potency is key.

Our Journey with Noni Fruit Leather and Noni Lotions:

Over the years, customers ask “Why do you not make a powered capsule of Noni?” The answer is always the same:  “Heat destroys enzymes and beneficial compounds in the raw pulp which destroys the potency.“ When I present my “Noni: Fact and Fiction” lecture at medical conventions, etc., I begin with the question: “Is Noni a miracle? No. Does Noni promote overall good health? Absolutely, if you do not destroy the potency of the pulp in processing.“

Freeze Drying:

The material to be freeze dried is first steamed at 140 F to sterilize or kill all the “bad pathogens” – which also kills all the good enzymes, etc.

We found that commercial dehydration units, dry at 140 F to make a powder. Same result – high heat destroys the beneficial enzymes and evaporates compounds.

The raw pulp is discarded and the remaining liquid is pasteurized at high heat.

Did you know?
Scientifically, one loses 50% of the value of an apple when juicing if the pulp is discarded.

The same applies to Noni. The worst case scenario for Noni is to let the raw fruit ferment only to be juiced and pasteurized. Almost all the potency of the raw fruit is destroyed.

The Hawaiian Organic Noni Way

Since day one in our journey with Noni, we emphasize the true traditional use was to consume noni raw, not fermented.

In the beginning, we only produced Noni Fruit Leather, which is a pure raw food from the non-fermented pulp of organic noni fruit. From personal experience consuming Noni Fruit Leather, I noticed the increased energy and the boost in my immune system. Noni Fruit Leather is a great raw food to promote overall good health, wellness and energy.

On our Farm Tours, we point out that most fruit leathers or "fruit roll ups" are dried in 10-12 hours at high heat above 140 degrees F but our Noni Fruit Leather takes over 60 hours below 115 degrees F.

The research provided in the "Hammer Aging with Noni Fruit Leather Antioxidant Power" article confirms potency of our Noni Fruit Leather. The image below shows the ORAC values (a measure of a foods antioxidant value) of several foods relative to Noni Fruit Leather.

Birth of Noni Lotions

After receiving emails, letters, and calls from other individuals saying that they were mixing our Noni Fruit Leather into water and applying it to the skin with amazing results. Noni addressed their pain and skin irritations. The Noni lotions were born! It took several years of development to refine the lotion formulas but the response has been fantastic. We now offer our Noni Lavender Lotion for skin irritations and soothing muscle fatigue and cramps (more general in use) or our Icy Heat Noni Lotion with menthol crystals and camphor oil specifically for pain relief or inflammation.

How much Noni should I take?

Remember that the results of Noni externally or internally are dosage related to the individual. On the Farm Tour we joke that "It is amazing how Noni does not work if you do not use it". The point being that you have to use it to get the beneficial results and some people need more than others based upon size and severity of a persistent condition. The rule of thumb, if you are not getting the desired effect simply apply topically more often or take more internally.

The directions on a package of Noni Fruit Leather says:

Recommended daily serving:

As a supplement: A 2 inch x 2 inch piece per day

For persistent conditions: Two to four pieces per day

If taking multiple pieces per day, we recommend consuming Noni Fruit Leather in the morning and at night keeping the Noni in your system throughout the day rather than just once per day in one large amount. Begin with two pieces per day for persistent conditions, and if the desired effect is not occurring then simply take more and monitor the results.

The same recommendation applies for the external use of the lotions.  Apply once or twice per day for pain relief or skin irritations, if the desired effect is not occurring simply apply more often. There is no "toxic" level. Different people have different levels of need. Many individuals find faster relief by putting the lotion on the bottom of their feet. Others apply the lotion to the neck and knees before bed and experienced improved sleep.

My wife and I (Steve Frailey) moved to Kauai, Hawaii in 1982 from our organic farm in California. There were no roads, electricity, water or buildings but lots of Noni trees (Morinda Citrifolia) in our valley. We also developed a deep relationship with Noni that was growing all through our valley.  Today we run our Hawaiian Organic Noni farm, and share the gift of health with people throughout the world.
