You’ve probably heard that the way you start your day sets the tone for your mood, productivity, and energy levels all day long. But have you taken control of your mornings yet?
I want to share a few tips and tricks for a healthy, energizing start to your day, based on my own morning routine. You can wake up feeling full of energy, no matter what your age is, if you learn what your body needs each morning, and make a habit.
For those of you curious about what I personally do, here’s my morning routine:
I wake up just as the sun is rising on our organic farm on Kauai. I start the day with yoga, and eat couple of pieces of Noni Fruit Leather for energy. Then I take a morning run through our noni fields to the nesting grounds of the albatross that return to the island and nest on our hillside each year. I take in the view of the ocean and the lush noni trees on our farm.
I believe it’s crucial to start your morning by taking time to appreciate the things that make life sweet. For me and my family, that means taking care of the health of our bodies, enjoying the fruits of our labor, and reveling in the beauty of the land that we call home.
Each of our bodies has unique natural cycles that we can influence with our behavior. Even just setting a morning routine at all has a big positive impact on wakefulness in the morning.
But the exact same strategies don’t work for everybody, every routine, or every lifestyle. Here are my tips for a healthy morning routine, but keep experimenting until you find a routine that feels right.
1. Start the Night Before
Many people don’t realize that a great morning routine starts the night before. Before going to bed, many people find it’s beneficial to get as much done as you can to make the morning easy.
- Pick out your outfit
- Make breakfast and/or lunch
- Pack your bag
Many people also benefit from a restful, relaxing bedtime routine that nourishes the body. Before you go to bed, you may enjoy meditation, reading, or a beauty ritual. Try applying Noni Lavender Lotion to your face before bed. The soothing smell will get you in the mood for sleep, and you’ll wake up fresh-faced, without having to worry about having a bad skin day.
2. Water, Water, Water
Hydration is key to good health. When you wake up in the morning, pour yourself a cup of water. This will help bring you out of your nighttime fast, rehydrating your body from the night without water. Fatigue is a symptom of dehydration, so water is great for helping you wake up quickly.
I love adding some fresh squeezed lemon to the water, for extra vitamin C and other nutrients to help you wake up with full energy.
Drinking water before a meal will also help curb your appetite, so you don’t eat too much at breakfast.
3. Eat a Nutritious Breakfast
A healthy morning starts with a nutritious breakfast. This includes feeding yourself, your family, and your pets. As part of a healthy breakfast, I suggest eating Noni Fruit Leather. Eating Noni Fruit Leather in the morning will help give you the energy and immune system support you need for a productive day.
- Vitamins, minerals, and other micronutrients
- Provides natural antioxidant protection against free radical damage
- Supports a healthy response to inflammation
If the taste of noni is a little much for you early in the morning, try making a nutritious smoothie or tea using our Noni Fruit Leather. Add some noni to your favorite smoothie recipe for an extra nutritional boost!
4. Get Moving
Exercise in the morning can get your day off to a (literal) jump start! Many people are afraid to exercise in the morning, because they think it will wear them out. In reality, you are likely to feel more energetic for the rest of your day, due to the endorphins released during exercise! Plus you won’t have to worry about finding the time to exercise later on.
Yoga is great exercise for the body, mind, and soul, making it a perfect morning exercise. You can choose your intensity level, and work your way up to find the right level of activity that boosts your energy levels for the whole day. I personally love yoga and have seen so many great health benefits from practicing it! Yoga can improve your energy levels, flexibility, balance, and so much more!
Another benefit of exercising in the morning is the opportunity to get some sunshine early in the day. Your body uses cues from the light levels around you to set your body’s internal clock. Getting some sunlight in the morning tells your body it’s time to wake up and get energized.
5. Take Time for Gratitude
How you feel in the morning depends a lot on your attitude. Studies have shown that one of the best ways to improve your attitude is to intentionally practice gratitude.
This works especially well in the morning and before sleep. While you’re doing any of the above activities, take some time to list the things in life you’re grateful for. You’ll get an extra mood and energy boost, and you’ll be on track for a great day.
Gratitude also helps you sort out what’s really important, which can make prioritizing your day much easier. Think about what you did yesterday that brought you joy. Be grateful for that, and try to find a way to prioritize that activity again today.
Mornings can be tough for many people, but I believe that anyone can wake up feeling energized, productive, and happy if they’re willing to experiment and find a routine that works for them.
