Steve Frailey has spent over 30 years cultivating his 37 acre farm on Kauai, Hawaii and is viewed as a pioneer in Noni cultivation. He has been in Hawaii since 1981. He and his business partner, Scott Jarvis, worked to get the farm certified organic through the USDA and provide a valuable product for customers and an educational experience to visitors. They currently invite people to visit their Hawaiian Organic Noni farm on regular farm tours. Noni is cultivated and processed on site. Open to the public 3 times a week by reservation, the farm offers a wonderful opportunity to learn more about Noni.
Noni: A Brief History
The ancient Polynesian people looked for new islands to colonize in what is known as the French Polynesian Islands and in 400 A.D., the Hawaiian islands. Noni was one of the 27 “canoe plants” brought over when the Polynesians migrated to Hawaii. These plants provided food, fiber, building materials and medicine. Noni, or Morinda Citrifolia, was brought over as a medicinal plant.
The Inspiration Behind the Noni Farm
Steve Frailey has been operating his Hawaiian Organic Noni farm on Kauai. He says that he at first, “didn’t understand” the Noni fruit or its impact on health. About 25 years ago Scott Jarvis, a business partner in starting the noni business with Steve, ate Noni and brought back good health by relieving some persistent conditions. Scott then gave Steve some fruit and after Steve ate it he immediately noticed an increase in energy. After a consuming noni over a period of time he noticed his immune system strengthened. Steve is passionate about his product and his good health testifies to the value of long-term consumption of Noni.
The Health Benefits of Noni
Adding Noni to one's diet will result in improved energy levels and improved digestion within a short period of time. By consistently adding Noni to one's diet over a period of time persistent conditions may begin to improve. Steve worked with Melody Toth, a head athletic trainer at the University of Hawaii developing Noni Lotions made with the raw pulp of noni. Topical application reduced pain and healed ligament damage for the participating athletes. By adding menthol and camphor to the pulp of noni, IcyHeat Noni Lotion and IcyHeat Sports Formula Lotion were created. The added menthol and camphor allow the noni to absorb in quickly for an even quicker relief from pain and expedited recovery time.
Independent Lab studies have looked at the Noni Fruit Leather in terms of its antioxidant power. When compared alongside apples, blueberries and noni juice, noni fruit leather led the pack in antioxidant activity with 340,000 units of antioxidants. Apples were a far second containing 3,082 units. Antioxidants, such as the phytochemical damnacanthal, help to promote good health and ward off skin deterioration by ridding the body of free radicals. When compared to noni juice, Noni Fruit Leather is 14x more potent. The serving of 1oz of noni juice provides 433 ORAC units where one 2x2 inch serving piece of Noni Fruit Leather provides 6024 ORAC.
Current studies show that regular use of Noni can:
- Support healthy cardiovascular systems
- Improve immune system function
- Maintain cholesterol and blood pressure levels that are already within the normal range
- Provide high levels of antioxidants to promote skin clarity, tone and texture
The true traditional use by Polynesians and Hawaiians for thousands of years was to eat the raw pulp of Noni for maximum health benefits. Our Noni Fruit Leather from the whole raw fruit, is not fermented with no additives or preservatives, organic, non-gmo and vegan with a two years shelf life. Our unique low-heat dehydration process maintains the maximum phytonutrient compounds found in Noni. Independent Laboratory testing has shown our Noni Fruit Leather to be 14 times more potent than fermented noni juice. Adding Noni to your diet can help to contribute to a healthier life.
